FAQ About About NF
Who can benefit from Neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback training can be used to improve a wide variety of symptoms in people of all ages, as a balanced brain, as well ability to achieve and maintain certain states, is key to improving behaviour and emotional health. Improved self-regulation training also enhances athletic or artistic performance and greater workplace achievement.
What happens in a Neurofeedback session?
Neurofeedback is a relaxed, comfortable training session in which the brain will do what it does all the time. It receives billions of stimuli from the senses, correlates this information to what the brain and body are doing, and communicates this information to other areas of the brain. During the session, this information is captured and via specialized computer software, brain activity is translated into audio and / or visual feedback with is relayed back to you. Training is entirely benign, the electrodes are exclusively one-way - in that they relay brainwaves to the computer, but they can’t send any information (or electricity) back to the brain.
How does the brain learn with Neuroofeedback?
With Neurofeedback training, you become an active participant in retraining and optimizing your own brain. Our brains are incredibly adaptable. Every day, we process and learn new information creating new neural pathways. This is known as neuroplasticity. Neurofeedback harnesses the brain’s natural ability to change, to retrain your brain.
How long does training take?
This is not a simple question to answer as Neurofeedback is not a treatment, but a training process. As a learning process, it takes a number of sessions of practice, so that it becomes second nature. With numerous factors affecting training, each program is customised according to the needs of the trainee.
How many sessions will I need?
New clients often ask this, understandably. The answer - it's really up to you. Whilst some complete their training, happy that they got what they came for after only a few sessions, others opt for a more long- term approach.
Is this a new training / treatment modality?
No, Neurofeedback has been used in clinical settings since the 1960s and is widely used both in clinical settings as well as Peak Performance and is approved by the FDA for stress management. For more information, please take a look at Resources
