Etel Adnan was a Lebanese-American poet, visual artist, and internationally acknowledged exhibited painter. She was in her 80s when her art started to draw international attention.

Her mother was a Greek Orthodox living in Smyrna (İzmir, Turkey) and her father was an Ottoman soldier born in Damascus (Syria). Her parental grandfather was a Turkish soldier, a classmate of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. She has Greek, Ottoman roots.

Unfortunately, the artist has passed away on the 14th of November 2021 at the age of 96, living almost a decade.
