How do we make sense of this data and understand the reports?

First, when you start the analysis, you see two options, mobile and desktop. Mostly desktop will have better page speeds.

The number you see below is your score. Your score is measured on a 100-scale scale. If it is red (0-49), it indicates that your site is performing very poorly. Orange (50-89) is not in bad shape, but indicates areas for improvement. If it is green (90-100), your site is in good health.

Below these you will see Field Data, Origin Summary and Lab Data. Field Data is a historical report that shows how a particular URL performed over time. Origin Summary, on the other hand, collects and displays the performance of all pages of the site over the past 28 days. Lab Data shows you the results of the test you just performed.

Below these you will see the Opportunities and Diagnostics section. Opportunities are suggestions for you to improve the speed of your site. Diagnostics shows you how to improve the performance of your application.
