FAQ About Latte vs. Flat White
What is the difference between latte and flat white?
Flat white and latte are two types of coffee. Both drinks are made with espresso and hot steamed milk, so it's only natural for most people to wonder the exact difference between a flat white and a latte. There are various opinions and debates about their differences, but the main difference between flat white and latte is that flat white is less frothy and milky than latte.
Although Flat White is mostly prepared with double shot espresso, it is possible to find Flat White prepared using single shot even in its homeland of Australia. But it's not espresso that makes the main difference between the two drinks.
The main reason that makes the difference between Latte and Flat White is the use of milk. When milk is prepared with a steam wand, 3 different layers are formed in the container;
- At the bottom, there is the heated liquid milk.
- In the middle layer, a soft micro-foam is formed, which can be observed as small bubbles, which is obtained by frothing of milk.
- At the top, there is a dense milk foam.
