After the overthrow, Queen Liliʻuokalani lived under house arrest at the ʻIolani Palace for several months. She was later released and continued to work on preserving Hawaiian culture and advocating for the rights of Native Hawaiians. She lived quietly in Honolulu until her death in 1917.
