What is the purpose of the League of Legends in the Runeterra Universe?
In the earlier iterations of the Runeterra Universe lore, the League of Legends had a central role as an organization that regulated conflicts between factions and champions. However, it's important to note that the purpose and existence of the League of Legends have been retconned in the current lore. As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, the League of Legends is no longer considered canon within the Runeterra Universe.
Previously, the League of Legends served the following purposes:
- Conflict Resolution: The League of Legends provided a controlled environment for factions and champions to settle disputes through sanctioned battles rather than all-out warfare. It allowed conflicts to be resolved without endangering innocent lives or causing widespread destruction.
- Maintaining Balance: The League acted as a mediator, ensuring a balance of power and preventing any single faction from dominating others. It sought to prevent large-scale conflicts and maintain stability within the world of Runeterra.
- Showcasing Champions: The League of Legends provided a platform for champions to showcase their abilities, gain recognition, and increase their influence. It allowed champions to prove their worth, attract attention, and build reputations.
