FAQ About World Environment Day

World Environment Day is celebrated on the 5th of June every year.

49 years ago, with the decision taken at the United Nations Environment Conference, which was held in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, and which was the first international meeting on the environment, June 5 was accepted as "World Environment Day" in order to raise awareness and take action on the protection of the environment around the world.

• Fish and other sea creatures caught in polluted waters should not be consumed or swimming in polluted waters,
• Soil pollution makes the soil unsuitable for agriculture with pesticides and fertilizers.
• In order to save water, one should not leave the water open for nothing, such as taking a shower instead of filling the tub, not keeping the water on while brushing teeth,
• Explosions in the sewer pipes should be reported to the authorized units without waiting,
• Full combustion of fuels should be ensured,
• Not only to turn off electrical devices from the remote control, but also from sockets that can be turned off when not in use, preventing unnecessary electricity consumption of the devices,
• Should carry water in a flask and not use plastic bottles.

A theme is determined each year for the World Environment Day program. For example, "fighting plastic pollution", "fighting air pollution" and "biodiversity" are among the themes determined in the past years.

It is an action taken to draw attention to environmental pollution and protection, with the decision taken at the United Nations Environment Conference. It is celebrated with great participation in order to raise awareness around the world. Millions of people from all over the world participate in events to celebrate the world environment day.

Protecting the environment we live in is of great importance in order not to harm nature. Therefore, in 1974, the United Nations declared June 5th as World Environment Day in order to protect the environment, draw international attention to environmental problems, and improve environmental law.

World Environment Day was accepted at the summit organized by the United Nations Organization in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, in 1972 with the participation of 133 countries. At the aforementioned summit, it was unanimously decided that June 5th would be World Environment Day.

The intensive mixing of foreign substances in the air, water and soil, which adversely affects the living and non-living elements of the environment, causes structural damages on them and impairs their qualities, is called "environmental pollution".

Irregular urbanization, damage to forests, erosion, destruction of natural vegetation, polluting land and sea vehicles, chemicals that harm the environment, pesticides are among the most important causes of increasing environmental pollution.
