What was the Organization of Afro-American Unity?
The Organization of Afro-American Unity (OAAU) was founded by Malcolm X in 1964 after his break with the Nation of Islam. The OAAU aimed to unify all people of African descent and work towards establishing equal human rights. Inspired partly by the Organization of African Unity, it sought to link African American struggles to those on the African continent, promoting economic independence, cultural pride, and political engagement.
