FAQ About Malcolm X

Why did Malcolm X leave the Nation of Islam?
Malcolm X left the Nation of Islam in 1964 due to growing tensions with its leader, Elijah Muhammad, and disagreements over the direction and conduct of the organization. His pilgrimage to Mecca also profoundly changed his views on race, leading him towards a more inclusive approach that was at odds with the Nation's separatist ideology. Following his departure, Malcolm X founded the Muslim Mosque, Inc., and the Organization of Afro-American Unity.
