Stranger Things is set in the fictional rural town of Hawkins, Indiana in the early 1980s. Hawkins National Laboratory ostensibly conducts scientific research for the United States Department of Energy, but secretly conducts experiments on humans in the paranormal and supernatural realms. They accidentally create a portal to an alternate universe called "Upside Down". As a result, the unaware residents of Hawkins begin to be negatively affected.

Winona Ryder - Joyce Byers, divorced from husband Lonnie, mother to Will and Jonathan Byers.

Millie Bobby Brown - Jane Ives / Hopper / Eleven ("Hand") is a young girl with psychokinetic abilities, an unusual appearance and limited vocabulary. Mike befriends Dustin and Lucas.

Gaten Matarazzo - Dustin Henderson, one of Will's friends. He is limp because he has cleidocranial dysplasia.

Caleb McLaughlin - Lucas Sinclair, one of Will's friends. At first he is wary of and dislikes Eleven, but later becomes friends with her.

Natalia Dyer - Nancy Wheeler, Karen and Ted's daughter, Mike's older sister and Steve Harrington's ex-girlfriend.

Charlie Heaton as Jonathan Byers, Will Byers' older brother and Joyce Byers' son. He is an introverted, calm and enthusiastic young man. He is very close with his mother and sister.

Noah Schnapp - Will Byers, younger brother of Jonathan Byers and son of Joyce Byers. He disappears after encountering the monster from "Upside Down" discovered by Hawkins Laboratory scientists. Schnapp was promoted to the main cast in the second season, after being in the supporting cast in the first season.

Sadie Sink as Maxine "Max" Mayfield / "Madmax" is Billy's half-sister and a girl who is attracted to both Lucas and Dustin.

Joe Keery - Steve Harrington, Nancy Wheeler's ex-girlfriend. Steve, a popular high school student, initially tries to have an affair with Nancy and ostracize Jonathan Byers; but he regrets it. Keery was promoted to the main cast in the second season after being in the supporting cast in the first season.

Dacre Montgomery as Billy Hargrove, Max's psychotic half-brother.

While Dustin, Mike and Lucas search for their lost friend Will, our main protagonist meets a timid girl named Eleven. The fourth season takes place in 1986. Already in the trailers released earlier, El said in the letter he wrote to Mike, “Today is the 185th day”. This took about 6 months. Hand moved to California. He tries to adapt to his new friends; but things are not going well.

Not the best season; but not the worst either. We can see the first seven episodes of the fourth season as a war preparation phase. It wouldn't be a spoiler for me to say this; because we've seen it in trailers. The Hand's powers are fading. As El struggles to regain their powers, the others face a formidable foe.

Jim is alive. This is not a surprise. It added color to the series that he lived in Russia. It was good enough to be a separate series.
