FAQ About Baby Car Seats
How long can a 3 month old be in a car seat?
While it is important to use a car seat when traveling with a baby, it is also important to limit the amount of time a baby spends in a car seat, especially for infants under 6 months of age. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that infants spend no more than 2 hours in a car seat at a time, and that parents should try to minimize the amount of time their baby spends in a car seat overall.
For a 3-month-old baby, this means that while it's okay to use a car seat for travel, it's important to take regular breaks during long car rides to allow your baby to stretch and move around. If possible, plan frequent stops and take your baby out of the car seat to play or be held. Additionally, never leave your baby unattended in a car seat, even for a short period of time.
