FAQ About Zara
What is the history of Zara?
Zara is a Spanish fashion retailer that was founded by Amancio Ortega Gaona in 1975. Ortega began his fashion career as a delivery boy for a local clothing store, but soon moved up the ranks to become a salesperson and eventually a manager. He eventually decided to strike out on his own and opened the first Zara store in the Galician city of A Coruña.
Zara's early success was built on a unique business model that focused on bringing the latest fashion trends to customers as quickly as possible. Unlike many other fashion retailers, which would plan their collections months or even years in advance, Zara was able to design, produce, and distribute new clothing styles in as little as two weeks. This allowed the company to respond quickly to changes in fashion trends and offer customers a constant stream of new and exciting styles.
Over the years, Zara continued to expand rapidly, both in Spain and around the world. The company opened its first store outside of Spain, in Porto, Portugal, in 1988, and quickly followed up with new stores in France, the United States, and other countries. Today, Zara has over 2,000 stores in more than 90 countries around the world, making it one of the largest and most successful fashion retailers on the planet.
