To make lasagna from scratch, follow these steps:


  • 9 lasagna noodles
  • 1 pound (450g) ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
  • 2 cups (480ml) tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups (480g) ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 cups (300g) shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup (50g) grated Parmesan cheese

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef or Italian sausage over medium heat until browned. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, and cook until the onion is translucent.
  4. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Simmer the sauce for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
