How do I set up push-to-talk in Discord?
Setting up push-to-talk in Discord allows you to control when your microphone is active during voice chats. Here's how you can set up push-to-talk in Discord:
- Open Discord and log in to your account.
- Click on the gear icon located near the bottom-left corner of the Discord window. This will open the User Settings.
- In the User Settings, navigate to the left sidebar and click on "Voice & Video."
- In the Voice & Video settings, scroll down until you find the "Input Mode" section.
- By default, the input mode is set to "Voice Activity," which means your microphone is always active when speaking. To enable push-to-talk, select the "Push to Talk" option.
- Once you've selected "Push to Talk," you'll see additional settings appear.
- Click on the "Record Keybind" button to set a key or combination of keys that you'll press and hold to activate your microphone while talking.
- A new window will appear, prompting you to press a key or combination of keys for the push-to-talk action. Press the desired key or keys.
- Discord will automatically assign the keybind, but you can also customize it by clicking on the "X" next to the keybind or clicking "Record Keybind" again to choose a different key or combination.
- Optionally, you can adjust the "Delay" setting, which determines the time it takes for the microphone to activate after pressing the keybind. The delay helps prevent accidental activation.
- Once you have set the keybind and adjusted the delay if needed, close the settings window.
- Test your push-to-talk setup by joining a voice channel and pressing and holding the assigned key or keys while speaking. Your microphone will be activated only when the key is held down.
