How do I make a Turkish coffee?
Turkish coffee is a traditional method of coffee preparation that involves brewing very finely ground coffee beans with water in a special pot called a cezve. Here's a basic recipe for making Turkish coffee:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of cold water
- 1 heaping tablespoon of finely ground Turkish coffee
- Sugar (optional)
Instructions:
- Measure 1 cup of cold water into the cezve (Turkish coffee pot) and place it on the stove over medium heat.
- Add 1 heaping tablespoon of finely ground Turkish coffee to the water and stir to combine.
- If desired, add sugar to taste (Turkish coffee is traditionally sweetened).
- Heat the coffee slowly, stirring occasionally, until it begins to foam and rise up in the cezve. Do not let it boil over.
- Remove the cezve from the heat and allow the foam to settle.
- Return the cezve to the heat and let it foam up again.
- Repeat the process of heating and settling the coffee a few times until the foam turns a golden-brown color.
- Pour the coffee into a small cup and serve immediately.
Note: Turkish coffee is usually served with a glass of water to cleanse the palate. It's also traditional to serve Turkish coffee with a small sweet treat like a Turkish delight or a piece of baklava.
