How do I make coffee with a Chemex?
Making coffee with a Chemex involves the following steps:
- Boil water and let it cool for a minute or two to reach the ideal brewing temperature, which is around 195 to 205°F (90-96°C).
- Fold the Chemex filter along the crease and place it in the top of the brewing vessel, ensuring that the three-layered side faces the spout.
- Rinse the filter with hot water to eliminate any paper taste and preheat the vessel.
- Discard the rinse water and add the desired amount of ground coffee to the filter. For best results, use a medium-coarse grind size.
- Start pouring hot water over the coffee, making sure that all the grounds are saturated. Allow the coffee to "bloom" for about 30 seconds by pouring just enough water to wet the grounds and waiting for the gases to escape.
- Continue pouring water slowly in a circular motion, keeping the water level just below the top of the filter, until the desired amount of coffee is brewed.
- Remove the filter and discard the used grounds.
- Pour and enjoy your coffee.
